A few months ago, Joey Cruz (writer of the awesome space adventure comic RECKSTAR) came to me with an idea: a Sadman story that would span not one, not two, not THREE, but FOUR STRIPS. Well, ultimately after bouncing some ideas back and forth we decided it would be best told as 3 strips. But still! It was great collaborating with Joey, and everyone should check out Reckstar, because it’s mighty good (i also did a little guest strip a few months back). Joey has a lovely wife, works for BigCartel, reviewed every Daredevil episode in depth, and sometimes has a ponytail.
Nicky B is a friend of mine. I asked him if he wanted to write a Sadman strip, and he said yes. A few months later he said he had an idea, but wanted to wait until the current story finished to see if it still fit. I said, “Poppycock, young Nicholas! You shall tender your script to me forthwith!” I thought what he wanted to do fit perfectly right in the middle of what i was doing, and would also provide a little break for the reader. Nick’s a filmmaker working on several projects at the moment, so keep watch on his twitter page for updates on those. He loves Stanley Kubrick, the X-men, and most of all Spider-man 3. I mean, he LOOOOOOOOVES Spider-man 3.
Long time readers will recognize Natasha’s name, she was the very first guest contributor to Sadman! This one came about through a twitter conversation, I had the setup and Natasha delivered the punchline. Originally she was going to draw it as well, but these days she is super busy working on her own comic HEATHEN, so I took the reins and finished it up.
Today’s guest strip comes from Bryan Boles! Bryan is the artist of World’s Strongest Mailman and Hellbillies! He loves kayaking, and probably other things, but he talks about kayaking a lot (he really loves kayaking). This is part 1 of our first 2 part guest strip!
I just received a guest strip from one of Portland’s finest, MATT HOWELL! Matt was previously one of the Bookhouse Boys and now spends a fair amount of time reviewing movies for THAT’S COOL, THAT’S TRASH! Matt’s married to a lovely woman, has a lovely daughter, and has VERY strong opinions on things, so I was thrilled to find out that he was a fan and wanted to contribute! He loves Dr. Dog & reading books and is findable on various social networks.
Today’s guest strip is by my good friend Greg Baldridge! Greg is the mastermind behind the comic TEECH, and spends his days… as a teacher! When he’s not poisoning the minds of youth with his unending positivity, he spends time in his garden, plays with his dog Dakota, and thinks about how much he likes his lady.
Today’s strip was written and laid out by Eric Gapstur! Eric is most well known for working with Phil Hester on The Flash: Season Zero for DC Comics and also writes and draws his own comic strip, WYATT! Eric loves wrestling, Bill Watterson, and his child, whose name I don’t know.
Note: Eric wrote & did the layouts for this strip. for those who might not know what that means; he decided what would happen in the strip and what it would look like, and then i took that and did the drawing & finishing.
Today’s strip comes to you from the mega-talented Natasha Alterici! Natasha loves dinosaurs, drawing, drawing dinosaurs, and the movie The Skeleton Twins. You can see some of her work HERE, and she also just put out the first issue of a super cool viking/medieval warriors/gods comic called HEATHEN that you can preview and purchase HERE.
